A dental implant is a surgical component that is placed in the bone, which integrates with the bone strong enough to build a new tooth off of it that both looks and functions like a regular tooth. Implants are comprised of 4 main steps:
- The damaged or infected tooth is removed.
- After planning precise location, depth, etc the implant body is placed, and covered with your gums to heal. We then wait 3 months for the bone to integrate with the implant.
- The implant is exposed on top and the gums are shaped to give the crown a natural emergence.
- The final crown is attached to the implant, and you can use it like a normal tooth right away!
